87. Cite de l'Automobile. Mulhouse, France Part 1

This far north-eastern area of France (Alsace) is very, very German. It's all sausages and Capital Letters and rushing to form queues.

We are here because Paul wanted to visit this famous museum, Cite de l'Automobile,  It houses the Schlumpf collection of automobiles, including the Bugatti collection.  Because it is a French National Museum, the entry price is only around 12 euros per person and the presentation is fabulous.  No-one does museums (or cafes or bread) as well as the French!

For those interested in seeing much better photographs than mine, go to
Collection Schlumpf

Here is the front entrance.  On the left you can see ...

... the original Schlumpf textile factory.  This building now houses the mechanical  workshops that support the collection.  The collection itself is in a newer, purpose built building.
Back to the entrance ......
The front entry is splendid.  These models are half inside the glass and half outside.

Inside looking out.
And because we went on a Sunday, we were lucky enough to see a "concourse elegans".
They drove eighteen cars around the track with a wonderful commentary.   This is the Citroen B2 - 1919.

The Peugot Airflow or 402 - 1930

Citroen Traction Avant (front wheel drive)

The Panhard & Levassor PL17.

Citroen DS 1955

Rolls Royce

The car of the future!  More ecological, more economical - electric!
When the parade was over, we walked around the displayed cars.
Yes, it's red ..... but is it a Ferrari or is it a Masserati or even an Alfa?  We can't remember.

But we know this one.  It is an Alfa Romeo 8C.  This was Paul's favourite.

A Renault Alpine 110 in fabulous condition.

And just for something different ...............

We took hundreds of photos.  Paul will be hosting a photo night sometime in November - all welcome.

Next - Inside the Museum
