48. La Alhambra and Generalife. Part 3

These emails and postings have had to be constructed separately because neither the mail servers I have used nor the blog site host will accept files larger than these. The problem, I suspect, was to do with the original resolution of the photographs.  I don't know why it would have effected only these sets of photographs - but who understands these things?

And so we continue …….

… making our way to some cold food and drink on our way back up the big hill we have spent the last few hours walking down.  Through these lovely arcades and courtyards, past the archeologists, finally to sit for a bit...

Here's Paul, in the courtyard of the American Hotel bar, consulting the cold drinks list.

After reviving, we continued our uphill section.

This time through the area called the Partel.  This is the area that includes the porticos of the three Nasrid palaces, some of the palace gardens and the Promenade of Towers.

There is water in every garden area.  Here Paul has found a cool grotto.  The water really is cool.

This photo shows how the water runs from Paul's grotto down through numerous paved levels to a shaded pool where kids have been splashing about.

And finally, at the bottom of all the terraces is this large pool ......

... attached to this  gorgeous building.  This is the  "room of the women".

Muslim women were not to be seen, but they had a stunning view of Granada from this magnificent structure.

Some detail of the carved stone around an arch.

The inside of the "women's tower".

Another view of the building from a higher terrace, as we continue up the hill.

The water looks green and murky, but it's not.  It is really clean,  cool and fresh.  It works on a gravity feed system with no water being wasted.  Eventually it all goes onto the gardens.

Next is the area called the Generalife.  Believe me, they don't pronounce it "general life", but Paul isn't here at the moment to tell me how it should be pronounced ....... so I'm off to do my homework before I tackle Part 4.
