Thirty two hours after leaving Geelong we arrived in Paris. Via Bangkok, which must be the biggest terminal in the world. Via Copenhagen, with a wind turbine everywhere you looked. Via the French RER rail system directly from the international terminal at Charles de Gaulle airport to what will become our local metro station at Les Halles. Via a very short taxi ride to the door of our apartment very close to the Louvre.
So we are here- very tired, but safe and sound.
And only one mishap; Paul left his reading glasses on the plane when we landed in Copenhagen. After spending 90 minutes trying to access the empty plane, talking to security staff who wouldn't let us on board, finding and then briefing the very helpful ladies at "Airport Assistance" (in Copenhagen at 5.00 am), finding a newsagent, purchasing an envelope and stamps and leaving a stamped, self addressed envelope with the helpful ladies, we had done all we could and were resolved that it was unlikely those specs would ever be seen again. When, to our astonishment, the resourceful Danes turned up at the departure lounge at exactly the moment we were boarding the connecting flight to Paris from Copenhagen - WITH THE SPECS! Amazing! The full story is very interesting, but because I have had about 4 hours of fitful sleep in the past 36 hours, I am too tired to type any more. So you'll have to wait.
We have been to the boulangerie for bread, the patisserie for cakes, the charcuterie for roast pork and terrines, and the supermarche for milk, juice, wine, fruit, salad greens, oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. It is now 3.00 am Melbourne time (6.50 pm Paris time) and time for dinner and bed. It's our 13th wedding anniversary today, but we'll put any celebration off until tomorrow. Just too tired!
