I remembered my camera today and snapped a few interesting things as we walked around our new neighbourhood. Our postcode is Paris 75001 so we are the historical centre. Paris is divided into arrondissements and we are in the 1st - Arr.1. It is called Louvre and it includes the Louvre Museum, the Tuilleries, the River Siene and the original market area of old Paris called Les Halles.

TNT Transport Express! Complete with side roller doors.
How to wash a building in three easy steps. 1. Clip a large piece of plastic to the edge of your scaffolding with strong pegs. 2. Dangle from the roof. 3. Apply your pressure washer. Voila!
Destruction des Animaux Nuisibles. This shop helps you kill those pesky, nuisancy animals around your house like mice, rats, cockroaches, spiders, etc. A fabulous window display - the vertical white shapes in the right hand window are rats hanging by their tails, while the gentleman in the white hat is looking at the biggest spiders I've ever seen. They are black shapes mounted in white frames just a little above his head. Obviously, business is thriving!
A touch of jazz while you enjoy your morning coffee in the sun. How civilised!
There is a park around every corner. This one was tiny but full of people. Most parks have free wi-fi.
I can't afford it! Even though I really loved this metal sculpture in a gallery window, it was a bit expensive at 16,800 Euros ($24,000).
A little bit of greenery is catching!
This is the Pompidou Centre - The Museum of Modern Art. The guy in the funny pants (about 65 yo) is about to perform. I didn't wait to see the act because I couldn't reconcile the business shoes with the silk pyjama bottoms. But it was the lunch hour. He must have just slipped out of the office for a bit.
The Pompidou Centre. Not strictly in "our neighbourhood" - we had walked a long way!
Not a good picture, but I had to be quick as this went past quite quickly. It is a tow-truck. It is based on a Land Rover Defender with a short wheel base. (Guess where I got that information!) You need to look carefully and not be distracted by the Tardis that just landed in the background.
And when they are not on roller-blades they are on bicycles! "Hang on a minute, Jacques - better take this call , it's the wife."
But the best sight of the day has no photo.
We came across an intersection of two smallish streets in an area where there were a lot of clothing import/export type businesses. There were lots and lots of small white vans parked in every available space (legal and otherwise) with their back doors open. There was one large van pulled up, back doors open, almost in the middle of the intersection. There were a lot of burly men waiting around with trolleys. I said to Paul that I thought we had stumbled onto something very interesting, but I didn't know what it was. Paul thought for a bit and said "I think they're all waiting for something to fall off the back of that truck!" Classic!
