Taking up the story again …. thinking we might be off on "a magical mystery tour", but in fact, ending up at the Eiffel Tower, we continued our day on the buses, and headed for home.

We were walking to the bus stop on the banks of the Seine and as we waited for the bus, this huge fuel barge went past - petrol, deisel, etc. By water - not on the roads!
But back to bus business. Here is Paul at the bus stop, checking out the easy to read, easy to understand, electronic timetable. Alas, we have to wait 4 minutes for our No. 72. At this point you must have noticed the shorts and thongs. Alas ..... Paul is the ONLY man in Paris wearing shorts and thongs. I concentrate on waiting for the bus!
And here it comes. Right on time. By now it is 5.30pm on a Thursday. The following three photos are taken from the bus.
Rush hour.
Buses and taxis have their own lane. The law-makers of Paris decided years ago that the big Boulevards would remain two-way traffic and that most of the smaller streets would be one-way. The second lane on all roads is dedicated to buses, taxis and bicycles. It works incredibly well. That's one of the reasons the buses are ALWAYS on time and come along every 5 minutes or so on every route.
On alighting from the bus at our stop, this was the view across the Siene. This is where the river first splits in two around the two islands in the middle of the river - Isle St Louis and Isle d"Cite. Notre Dame is on the far island, Isle d'Cite. On our last trip to Paris in 2006, we stayed on the island you see here, Isle St Louis..... just behind those lovely trees.
Oh, before I go ... I'm cooking chicken with mushrooms for tea and composing this email while it cooks. Do you want to see what we are having for desert?
They are 3.20 euros each, that is $4.60 AUD. "Worth every cent of it" says Paul. I must agree.
